UNIMA Norway ‘s objective is to promote puppetry art in Norway. In this work it is therefore essential to establish good partners and collaborators, both in general and specificely within the arts field. Through the years UNIMA Norway has developed a number of dynamic projects and joint ventures together with several partners from the  Norwegian performing arts arena.

The Norwegian Acting Centre
Norsk Skuespillersenter

The Norwegian Acting Centre is a center for continuous professional development in the arts. The center’s goal is to reach actors across the country through courses, seminars, debates and project development.

The center offer courses, training and workshops. The courses are open to all professional actors, regardless of membership in the Norwegian Actors’ Equity Association. Some of the offerings are also open to participants from other parts of the culture scene.

Norwegian Centre for Actors was initiated by Norwegian Actors’ Equity Association (NSF), and has since 2001 been an independent foundation. The center is housed in NSF’s premises in Welhavens gate 1 in Oslo.

All the center’s offerings are greatly subsidized, partly funded by the Ministry of Culture and Norwegian Actors’ Equity Association .

In recent years the Norwegian Actors Centre held several workshops in puppetry, with teachers such as Ulrike Quade and Wakka Wakka.


Oslo Nye Teater (Oslo New Theatre)

Oslo Nye, Puppet Theatre has been situated at Torshov, Sagene since 2003,

Staging performances for children from three years of age, of day and night, 6 days a week, all year round.

Trikkestallen has its own puppet theatre ensemble that produces a variety of puppets and performances.

In addition to producing performances Oslo Nye Teater has a cooperation with House of Drama, Oslo and Nordland Visual Theatre on a text development programme aimed for script development within the figure theatre field.

Oslo Nye Teater, Trikkestallen houses generously FRI FIGURE – international puppetry festival.


Riksteatret (National touring theatre company)

Riksteatret is the entire nation´national theater and they are touring the whole country to offer the public professional performing arts, including puppetry.

Riksteatret has a small permanent ensemble, but is organized as a project theater. They therefore cooperate closely with the rest of the performing arts in Norway. They have long experience creating puppetry for children and adults. UNIMA Norway and Riksteatret have the same objective of developing puppetry and the desire  to spread it to a wider audience. Riksteatret is therefore an important partner in the implementation of FRI FIGUR – International puppetry festival. Riksteatret is also a member of UNIMA Norway.

Nordland Visual Theatre (NVT)

Nordland Visual Theatre is an international production center for puppetry and stage art. The theater was founded in 1991. It does not have a permanent ensemble but a permanent staff of 5 employees. NVT is administered by Nordland County and is located in the fishing village Stamsund in Lofoten. NVT offers performing artists arrangements within the scope, feasibility study and summer residence. Each year they produce 4-7 pilot projects / residences in addition to performances in collaboration with professional artists / groups from home and abroad. NVT touring performances are mainly performed in Nordland county.

Dramatikkens Hus (House of Drama)

Dramatikkens Hus aims to develop new Norwegian drama, both in Norway and abroad. They provide funds and resources for professional artists for writing processes, artistic interlocutors / dramaturgy consultants and work in venues; workshops and work in progress viewings. In 2015 they started a text development for puppetry in cooperation with Oslo Nye Teater and Nordland Visual Theatre. 17 playwrights are participating in the program that runs over a year. The purpose is to promote the entry of new texts for puppet theater aimed at children.
